2020 Business Opportunity Exchange

The Business Opportunity Exchange (BOE) is the premier supplier diversity and small business development conference in Georgia each year. Hosted by the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council (GMSDC) is committed to serving the diverse supplier community during these challenging times.  As the GMSDC celebrates 45 years of facilitating relationships, creating jobs and stimulating Georgia’s economy, the current business climate mandates a focus on the survival, success and sustainability of the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) firms across the state, many of whom have been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn. To ensure the health and safety of all attendees, the 2020 BOE will be a virtual event themed Adjusting your 2020 Vision. The conference is a full week of workshops, speakers, networking, presentations and matchmaking, to be delivered virtually over technology platforms.

Scheduled for Minority Business Opportunity Week (MBOW) – September 14 – 18, 2020 – the BOE is five days of capacity building and engagement activities designed to stimulate opportunities. MBOW is a ceremonial designation by state and local governmental entities of a week to honor the achievements of minority business and to renew our collective commitment to engaging them and utilizing them in global and governmental supply chains. It is especially timely in our current climate, as many minority and small businesses struggle to survive in the pandemic economy.

The focus of this week of activities is Opportunities. In a pandemic economy, opportunities are rare, which has had a huge impact on the minority business community. The most important thing we can do for the minority businesses in our community is to keep them working by proactively and intentionally seeking to provide opportunities. This critical truth is a foundational element of the survival of these companies. In summary, we are convening this year to talk about how we might be more creative and more proactive in how we utilize minority suppliers.

Spread out across 5 days to provide schedule flexibility for attendees and accommodate unique aspects of a virtual environment, the BOE will include the following elements –

State of Minority Business – A National Discussion Building on our studies of minority businesses and their economic impact, we will continue this discussion about the challenges facing black-owned and other minority businesses in this current environment. This discussion with local, state and national stakeholders will address how we support and sustain minority businesses.

MBE Presentations MBEs will be able to provide overviews of their products, services and capabilities to a ‘room’ full of procurement decision makers who buy goods and services in their category.

One on One Corporate Connections Matchmaking appointments will be available at various times for suppliers to have one-on-one face time with corporate members who are potential business partners.

Industry Forums Panel discussions on industry trends, challenges and opportunities for the following industries:

  • Construction and Facilities
  • Professional Services
  • Staffing
  • Technology
  • Transportation and Manufacturing

Panels will include corporate leaders, MBEs and industry experts.

Business After Hours There will be virtual networking activities that will allow us all to wind down, relax and get to know one another after the day’s events are concluded. The partner you seek may be in the virtual ‘room.’

Spirit of Alliance Winners Announcement On the final day of our BOE, we will announce the winners of the 2020 Spirit of Alliance Awards. The Awards will be presented in December.
