Emmy-Award-Winning Executive Producer, Writer and Agency Principal Rushion McDonald is blazing a white-hot trail of excellence and creativity through 3815 Media, his marketing, media production and management firm headquartered in Peachtree Corners. A Houston transplant who has long called Atlanta home, McDonald is a highly decorated producer, writer and creative force who has played a role in iconic television series, game shows, docu-series, awards events, reality shows and large-scale productions too numerous to name. Recently honored with the proclamation of Rushion McDonald Day in Houston, McDonald is a trusted advisor and business manager to entertainment legends like Steve Harvey and Stephen A. Smith. The clientele he has served as a writer and producer reads like a Who’s Who of iconic performers, including Kevin Hart, Jamie Foxx and Taraji P. Henson. The holder of a mathematics degree from the University of Houston, McDonald started his career at IBM, shifted into stand-up comedy and ultimately found his niche in writing, consulting and media production. Known for a primary focus on projects that showcase African American culture, 3815 Media is involved in a number of major projects designed to refocus the lens through which the world sees black culture.
Backed by a high-powered team of marketing and media professionals who are leaders in the industry themselves, McDonald continues to innovate and raise the bar. This April, Texas Southern University will host another edition of HBCU College Day, a full-day festival of events and activities McDonald created to showcase the rich culture of HBCU campuses to high school students and families. In addition to speakers, tours, academics, musical performances, Greek life and other elements of the HBCU experience, the event features a streamlined admissions component where officials from multiple schools accept applications for admissions and scholarships from prospective students. McDonald’s Money Making Conversations Master Class is the number #1 syndicated weekend show on Black radio. Through its many media platforms, 3815 Media is focused on featuring Black Excellence. “I recognize that we all have different definitions of success,” says McDonald. “For you, it may be the size of your paycheck. Mine inspires people to accomplish their goals and live their very best life. It’s time to stop reading other people’s success stories and start writing your own. People always talk about their purpose or gifts. If you have a gift, lead with your gifts and don’t let your friends, family, or co-workers stop you from planning or living your dreams.”
The awards and accolades for Rushion’s decades of work are legendary – two Emmy Awards, three NAACP Image Awards, a Reggie Award from the Association of National Advertisers, a Living Legends Entrepreneur Award, and his induction into the Personal Managers Hall of Fame among them – not to mention the countless accolades he has influenced for clients. He has produced, written and advised on New York Times best-selling books, nationally syndicated tv and radio programming, box office hit movies, and long-running talk shows that have anchored network programming for years. His focus on writing, producing and telling black stories is producing dividends across multiple platforms, providing ample proof that a minority company that focuses on its own community and culture can thrive and produce sustained results. Rushion even found time to lend his expertise to the production of digital content for the GMSDC’s 2021 Spirit of Alliance Awards, for which we are most grateful. As Black History Month draws to a close, we salute MBEs like 3815 Media who continue to make history, every day.
