GMSDC Family –
I trust that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe. We appreciate your commitment to the GMSDC and all of your many contributions to our community. As you know, there has been a significant uptick in coronavirus cases across the nation, due to the spread of the delta variant to COVID – 19. This surge has resulted in significant revisions to the health and safety guidelines issued by the medical community, which required that we reevaluate our operating protocols and our upcoming event schedule. After reviewing CDC guidance and consultation with the staff and our Board of Directors, we have decided to reschedule the Spirit of Alliance Awards, currently scheduled for August 19th, to September 16th, 2021. This will give us time to revisit the current best practices and adjust as appropriate, to ensure that everyone in our community stays well.
One of the principles we emphasize to our community is the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, and in this instance the Council is following its own advice. While we were all looking forward to one of our most popular Signature Events, we must keep the well-being of our GMSDC family top of mind, which mandated that we step back for a moment and revisit the event schedule. SOA will now serve as the kickoff for the celebration of Minority Business Opportunity Week (MBOW) on September 20 – 24. Out of an abundance of caution, the formatting of the Business Opportunity Exchange and other MBOW activities will be migrated from our original plan of a hybrid format – a mix of virtual and in-person events – to a full virtual presentation. We all look forward to a time when we can safely gather in person again, but current circumstances dictate that we exercise caution. Thank you for your understanding and unwavering support. Stay tuned for updates on the BOE and MBOW in the coming weeks.
Warmest regards,
Stacey J. Key
